Mariasela Álvarez, 21 years old, 5’ 9 (34- 24 -36) architecture student, teacher’s daughter, she knew English, French, Italian and Spanish, she was persuaded and took part in Miss Dominican Republic World when the Competition left one or two weeks, and the rest of contenders were 2 month training and won!!. She was criticised because of her big mouth and the fact there were more beautiful girls.


She went to Miss World Pageant with the same national costume that Patricia Polanco (Miss Universe 2003 Amelia Vega’s mother) wore in 80’s, in London where she wasn’t favourite neither conquered the crown and became the first Miss World of Dominican Republic!!.


She was asked Why did she think had won? “I’m the most completed of all contestants” answered; but it was a misconception with the English journalist, they understood as if she was virgin, and they publish in the newspaper she was the only one virgin and won for that reason, a misconception that she cleared later.

After her reign, she got married and completed her university studies, she designed a building for Verizon in the Dominican Republic, later she entered at television in a talkshow with Milagros Germán (Miss Dominican Rep. 1980), later she was her own show, named “Esta noche con Mariasela” (Tonight with Mariasela) which is keep on air nowadays.
