Catharina Lodders, Miss World
1962 (Holland)
crown, sash, tears and twist
People might think the reigning year of a beauty
queen is full of happiness due to the title that got her the recognition
as the most beautiful woman in the world, as well as the amount
of prizes she received, the travels to all corners of the world,
and meeting famous and important people ... nevertheless it is not
always like that.
Catharina
Lodders, Miss Holland and Miss World 1962, a professional model
with measurements of 87 53 87, just 3 days prior to the Miss World
1963 show, was being interviewed for a popular magazine and said
the following:
“I’m so happy because I am not the
one who is going to receive the crown”. Her last official
act as Miss World would be to crown the new Miss World and she did
it gently because it meant taking the crown off of her head; because
the crownwas not nice to her -- she paid an expensive price to conquer
the Miss World title: she was going to marry her love. At first,
her fiancé was proud because her girlfriend was recognized
as one of the most beautiful in the world, but later her required
trips abroad began.
One day, when she returned home from one of her
trips, she found her boyfriend with another girl, there followed
a terrible scene where her "lovely" man threw her from
the car in a violent movement and dragged her for several meters
because her dress got stuck in the car's door. Obviously, they broke
their engagement.
But the title came with other disappointments as
well, Catharina says; “I don’t think the Miss World
title has changed me in any way, I don’t like to change and
in my country there are people who don’t understand and admit
that”.
Once, in a fashion show, none of the 36 models wanted to talk with
her and she was completely ignored. Moreover, she received dozens
of offensive letters. “There are people in Holland that think
that because you have triumphed you must not be as you are, nevertheless
in other countries everybody has been very good and friendly with
me” and when she gave up the crown, she planned to move to
London to work as a model with people "who had been friendly
and acted educated" with her.
But destiny had a different prize for her, and
18 months after crowning her successor she married Chubby Checker
“the King of the Twist”, who met her on one of her trips
to New York. He wrote the song “Loddy Lo” in her honour,
which was on the Hit Parade in 1963. Nowadays, Catharina is a happy
wife and mother living in Philadelphia with her husband and children.
La la la lardy
la la la lardy
i've got a girl that i love so
hey lardy lardy lo
her name is lardy lardy lo
hey lardy lardy lo
sing it:-
hey lardy lardy lardy
hey lardy lardy lo
hey lardy lardy lardy
hey lardy lardy lo
la la la lardy
la la la lardy
don't know the word to any song
hey lardy lardy lo
but me and my lardy get along
hey lardy lardy lo
sing it now:-
hey lardy lardy lardy
hey lardy lardy lo
hey lardy lardy lardy
hey lardy lardy lo
and with the moon above
i should sing words of love
but all i do is sing her name
she gets the message just the same
hey lardy lardy lardy
hey lardy lardy lo
hey lardy lardy lardy
hey girl i love you so
all together:-
la la la lardy
la la la lardy
la la la lardy
hey girl i love you so
and when we take a walk
we got no time for talk
cause fancy talk is for the birds
a kiss is worth a thousand words
hey lardy lardy lardy
hey lardy lardy lo
hey lardy lardy lardy
hey girl i love you so
all together:-
la la la lardy
oh yeah la la la lardy
